== Summary ==
This episode took place in 1762-63 during the [[3rd Carnatic War]]. The Governor of [[Bengal (Presidency)|Bengal]] [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Vansittart Henry Vansittart]  Nawab of Bengal sought to drive the British out by capturing Calcutta. deposed [[Mir Jafar]] and made [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Clive,_1st_Baron_Clive Robert CliveMir_Qasim Mir Kasim] won a series Nawab of victories ending in Bengal. A treaty with Mir Kasim designed to counter the corruption amongst [[East India Company]] merchants was repudiated by the defeat Council of Calcutta and worsening relations led to an attack on [[Patna]] by the the British, instigated by the Company Agent William Ellis. Ellis and his forces were soon ejected from the city by the Nawab 's troops and pursued to Manjee where they were forced to surrender on 1st July 1764. Major Thomas Adams recaptured Patna on 6 November 1763 but not before Mir Kasim had executed 50 Europeans prisoners taken at PlasseyManjee. Meanwhile The conflict finally ended with the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Years'_War Seven Years WarTreaty_of_Allahabad Treaty of Allahabad] had broken out which caused renewed hostilities between following the French and British in the Carnatic. The British under defeat of [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eyre_Coote_(East_India_Company_officer) Eyre CooteShah_Alam_II Shah Alam II] finally defeated the French. War broke out again in Mughal Emperor, Mir Kasim Nawab of Bengal after a conspiracy by the Dutch but the British eventually prevailed with a final victory at Buxar.
