Chronology
- 1841 raised as 7th Irregular Cavalry
- 1861 retitled as the 5th Regiment of Bengal Cavalry
- 1901 became 5th Bengal Cavalry
- 1903 became 5th Cavalry
- 1921 amalgamated with 8th Cavalry to form 3rd Cavalry
