The Ministry of Defence Medal Office<ref>[https://www.gov.uk/the-ministry-of-defence-medal-office The Ministry of Defence Medal Office]</ref>holds a collection of WW2 Index Medal Cards which typically ‘include service number, names, class and date of release or discharge, age, rank, regiment or corps, dates and details of medals awarded and a postal address for the individual'.<ref> WW2 Forum [http://ww2talk.com/forums/topic/50926-campaign-to-release-wwii-medal-index-cards/ post] dated 05 December 2013</ref> There is currently a campaign to have these cards digitised. Does not contain the illustrations and maps from the original publication. The author was Col: A H Pilcher who at the outbreak of the second world war commanded the [[Assam Valley Light Horse]]. In March 1942 he was put in charge of raising a labour force from the Tea Plantations to build the Manipur/Burma Road to evacuate the 14th Army and also the many civilians who were fleeing Burma.
