'''Brigadier-General John Jacob CB (1812 – 1858)''' was an officer of the British [[East India Company]] who went to India in 1828 with a commission in the [[Bombay Artillery]]. He served in the [[1st Afghan War]] in the artillery and then commanded the [[Scinde Horse]] creating a second regiment which was called [[Jacob's Horse]]. He was political officer in the [[North West Frontier Province|Northwest Frontier]] and the town of [[Jacobabad]] was named after him. As a Brigadier-General he commanded the cavalry in the [[Persian War]]. He returned to the North West Frontier and raised two regiments of infantry. He died of a fever in 1858.
