Originally raised as the [[Madras Volunteer Guards]] on the 2nd July 1857 , and became sometimes referred to as the Madras Volunteers. Became the [[1st Madras Guards]] on the 1st Madras Guards on the 1st April 1917. Became and then the Madras Guards on the 1st October 1920.
