The 16th Punjab Regiment was formed in 1922 by the amalgamation of five existing regiments and consisted of four regular battalions and a training battalion

At Independence in 1947 the 16th Punjab Regiment was allocated to Pakistan, and in 1956 amalgamated into the Punjab Regiment, (along with the 1st, 14th and 15th Punjab Regiments) with Regimental Centre now at Mardan.[1]

The 1st-4th Battalions 16 Punjab Regiment became 13 Punjab, 14 Punjab, 15 Punjab and 17 Punjab in the Pakistan Army.[2]
