The Lakhimpur Mounted Rifles were a volunteer corps based in Lakhimpur in Assam.

Chronology

  • 1882 raised as Lakhimpur Volunteer Rifle Corps on 3rd November[1]
  • 1888 renamed the Lakhimpur Mounted Rifles[1]
  • 1891 amalgamated on 6th November with several other corps to become the Assam Valley Mounted Rifles[2]

Personnel

  • Dr Theodore D’Orville Partridge, Civil Surgeon of Cachar was Commandant of the Lakimpur Rifles 1882-84 before serving for ten years in the Surma Valley Light Horse, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. Obituary, June 5, 1897, British Medical Journal.
