Also known as “East India College”, '''Haileybury''', in Hertfordshire, provided education for potential [[civil servant]]s of the [[East India Company]]. Pupils were young men between 15-20 years of age who had been nominated by EIC Directors to become [[Writer|Writers]] in the [[Indian Civil Service]]. The college operated fromits from its establishment in 1809 (the East India College had previously been at Hertford Castle since 1806), until it closed in 1858.
