- 1828 separated from 15th BNI to form 31st Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
- 1856 became 31st Regiment of Bengal Light Infantry
- 1861 became 2nd Bengal Light Infantry
- 1876 became the 2nd (Queen's Own) Regiment of Bengal Native Light Infantry
- 1897 became the 2nd (Queen's Own) Regiment of Rajput Bengal Light Infantry
- 1901 became the 2nd (Queen's Own) Rajput Light Infantry
- 1911 became the 2nd Queen Victoria's Own Rajput Light Infantry
- 1922 became the 2nd (Queen Victoria's Own Light Infantry) Battalion, 7th Rajput Regiment
- 1947 allocated to India on Partition
