Chronology
- 1797 raised as 14th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry following 1796 reorganisation when previous 14th became 2nd Btn 10th Regt
- 1824 2nd Battalion became 28th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry under Major C H Baines
- 1857 mutinied at Shahjahanpur mid June
In 1861, after the mutiny, the title was given to the 20th Regiment of Punjab Infantry which later became the 28th Regiment of Punjab Infantry.
