Chronology

  • 1778 raised as 33rd Battalion at Cawnpore by Captain John Byrne
  • 1781 became the 26th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
  • 1784 returned to Bengal under Captain Richard Scott
  • 1796 absorbed by the 11th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
  • 1824 1st Battalion became 16th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry under Major E Wyatt; 2nd Battalion became 17th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry under Major H Nicholson
