- 1803 raised as 1st Battalion, 22nd Bengal Native Infantry
- 1824 became 43rd Bengal Native Infantry
- 1842 became 43rd Bengal Native (Light) Infantry
- 1861 became 6th Bengal Native (Light) Infantry
- 1897 became 6th Jat Bengal (Light) Infantry
- 1901 became 6th Jat Light Infantry
- 1903 became 58th Vaughan's Rifles (Frontier Force)
- 1922 became 1st Royal Battalionn (LI) 9th Jats
- 1947 allocated to India on partition
