Revision as of 10:22, 28 January 2012

The L/F/10 records are records of service, 1702-1928, and contain:

  • lists of civil and uncovenanted servants
  • statements of civil establishment for the Government of India and the provincial governments
  • lists of employees of
    • the India Forest
    • Public Works
    • Post Office department
    • Burma Railway Company

For a list of these records see L/F/10 Records. By way of example, one of the pages is Agra Civil Servants 1836 - 1848 for which the reference L/F/10/161 IOR Neg 57171-172 is quoted. The second reference IOR Neg 57171-172 is an India Office Records microfilm number. These are different to the LDS microfilm numbers, which are also quoted.

This India List post advises that a number of LDS microfilms in respect of uncovenanted servants are listed in the LDS Library catalogue under the title A return of all offices, places and pensions, civil, political, military and commercial held under the East India Company within the United Kingdom and colonies. India Office. The reference IOR/ L/AG/30/1-22/1-60 is quoted, however an examination of pages 2 and 3 of the film notes for the catalogue entry shows that many of the records for uncovenanted servants are from the series IOR/L/F/10/119-252, for the period to 1900 (broken range). Some of the records which do not have an IOR reference are thought to be also part of the IOR/L/F/10 series.

More details about these records will be available in the soon to be published FIBIS Fact File on L/F/10 Records of Service.
