The first portion of the IVSR, from [[Rangoon]] to [[Prome]] (161 miles) was surveyed in 1869, construction began in 1874 and the section was opened to traffic in 1877. The extension of the line to [[Mandalay]] (386 miles from Rangoon) was completed in 1889, and a further extension from Mandalay to [[Lashio]] was made in 1903. (1)

Although there do not appear to be any IVSR staff records held in the India Office Records at the British Library, the names of staff transferred to the successor copmany may appear in Burma Railway records.
