The introductory volume stated "the object of this work is simply to bring together such useful information, and propagate such sound opinions, relating to Indian affairs, as will, it is hoped, conduce, in some small measure, directly or indirectly, to the amelioration of the condition of the people. Our first desire is, to awaken interest; to induce a thirst after information; then to supply that information; and finally to teach the application of it to its most beneficial uses"

This link is a short index of the contents of Volumes 1- 38. The authors of the articles are also given, unlike the actual Calcutta Review articles which do not include the author's name.

Note each volume consists of two parts, each of which has its own index, and part number.

In most editions,the second index immediately follows the first index.

Editions available on the Digital Library of India

A broken range of editions to 1966 was previously available on the Digital Library of India website, which is no longer operating. Note, for two volumes seen, for 1918 and 1919, the title page and contents pages were in respect of one year, however the articles were for the following year.

The following details are based on catalogue entries on the Digital Library of India website. Dates may refer to the date when the Review was originally published, (either quarterly or monthly) or the date when a book version was later published (half yearly, or yearly, or for monthly editions, later quarterly publications). In addition, some reprint editions have the peculiar feature that the contents page is for an earlier period than the actual articles, and these editions are probably catalogued according to the volume shown on the Contents page.

Update: Mirror versions of many, but possibly not all, of the Digital Library of India files may now be accessed at Calcutta Review on Archive.org, where the book files may be read online, or downloaded.
