This page is part of the Family History in India website, which is designed to guide people in how trace their British and European ancestry in colonial India. This particular webpage is a list of the Roman Catholic Churches in the neighbourhood of Madras taken from An Outline of the History of the Archdiocese of Madras & Mylapore by Dr. R. ARULAPPA, Archbishop of Madras-Mylapore (1986). It has been kindly transcribed by Peter Bailey of the U.K. in December 1999. Peter has indicated the rough locations as a distance and direction from Fort St. George where he has been able to find them. Some 'well-known' churches seem no longer to be functional (e.g. St. Roch nr. the Monegar Choultry) and are missing.

The [[LDS]] (Mormons) microfilmed the Baptism, Marriage and Burial records of the RC Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore during 1999 and they are expected to make them available to the public in 2000. Below are the dates for which their records should be available for the parishes indicated. The LDS were assisted by Fr. Vijay Kiran formerly the Secretary to the Archbishop to whom thanks are gratefully conveyed for this data.
