12th Frontier Force Regiment was formed in 1922. It consisted of five regular battalions; numbered 1 to 5 and the 10th (Training) Battalion. During the Second World War further battalions were raised
- 1st Battalion: see 1st Regiment of Sikh Infantry, Punjab Frontier Force
- 2nd Battalion: see 2nd Regiment of Sikh Infantry, Punjab Frontier Force
- 3rd Battalion: see 3rd Regiment of Sikh Infantry, Punjab Frontier Force
- 4th Battalion: see 4th Regiment of Sikh Infantry, Punjab Frontier Force
- 5th Battalion: see Corps of Guides, Punjab Frontier Force
