Originally raised as the Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway Volunteer Corps on the 3rd August 1877. Amalgamated in 1886 with the Ghadeshi Volunteer Rifle Corps, which was formed on 23rd December 1885. Amalgamed with the Rajputana-Malwa Volunteer Rifle Corps, which was raised on the 8th August 1882, as the 2nd Battalion on 1887. On 1st April 1917 became the 17th Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway Battalion. Became Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway Regiment on the 1st October 1920.
