Originally raised from the [[Madras Volunteer Guards]] on 1st January 1879 and became the [[2nd (Madras) Group Garrison Artillery]] on 1st April 1917. Constituted as [[II. (Madras) Field Brigade "The Duke's Own"]] on the 1st October 1920, after HRH The Duke of Connaught visited India to inaugurate the "Montfort" reforms in the Indian Government. Reorganised in 1933 and became No. 3 (Madras Field Battery "The Dukes Own".
