  • 1857 raised as 31st Regiment of Punjab Infantry in Ferozepore and known as Bloomfield's Sikhs
  • 1861 became 31st Bengal Native Infantry
  • 1864 became 31st (Punjab) Bengal Native Infantry
  • 1885 became 31st (Punjab) Bengal Infantry
  • 1901 became 31st Punjab Infantry
  • 1903 became 31st Punjabis
  • 1922 became 2nd Battalion 16th Punjab Regiment
  • 1947 allocated to Pakistan on Partition
