  • 1878 raised as the Khyber Jezailchis by Capt Gilbert Gaisford[1]
  • 1881 command taken by Sardar Mohammad Aslam Khan (first Muslim commander)
  • 1887 renamed Khyber Rifles
  • 1919 disbanded
  • 1946 reconstituted from Afridi veterans
  • 1947 allocated to Pakistan
