  • 1803 raised as the 5th Extra Battalion of Madras Native Infantry
  • 1804 became the 1st Battalion, 23rd Regiment of Madras Native Infantry
  • 1806 disbanded and reformed
  • 1807 became the 1st Battalion, 25th Regiment of Madras Native Infantry
  • 1819 became the 1st Battalion, 23rd Regiment of Madras Native Infantry
  • 1824 became the 45th Regiment of Madras Native Infantry
  • 1864 disbanded
