26th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry

Chronology

1797 raised as 13th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry following 1796 reorganisation when previous 13th became 2nd Btn 1st Regt
1824 1st Battalion became 26th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry under Major A Owen
1857 mutinied at Mean Meer 1 May. Massacred at Ajnala 1 August.

In 1861, after the mutiny, the title was given to the 18th Regiment of Punjab Infantry which later became the 26th Regiment of Punjab Infantry.
