Chronology

  • 1763 raised as 21st Battalion in Patna by Captain James Morgan
  • 1764 ranked as 11th Battalion of Bengal Native Infantry
  • 1765 posted to the 3rd Brigade
  • 1775 renumbered the 17th Battalion of Bengal Native Infantry
  • 1781 became the 17th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
  • 1796 absorbed the 10th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
