Also known as the Chota Burdwan Battalion

Chronology

  • 1760 raised in Burdwan ranked 9th Battalion
  • 1764 ranked as 8th Battalion under Captain William Smith
  • 1765 posted to the 2nd Brigade
  • 1775 renumbered the 9th Battalion of Bengal Native Infantry
  • 1781 became the 3rd Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
  • 1783 became the 9th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
  • 1786 became the 9th Battalion of Bengal Native Infantry
  • 1796 became the 1st Battalion 9th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
  • 1824 became the 8th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry
  • 1857 mutinied at Dinapore 25 July
