43rd Regiment of Madras Native Infantry

Chronology

• 1803 raised as the 43rd Regiment of Madras Native Infantry
• 1864 disbanded

In 1861 the 2nd Assam Light Infantry took the name 43rd (Assam) Light Infantry, Bengal Native Infantry and in 1864 became the 43rd (Assam) Regiment of Bengal Native (Light) Infantry. This regiment was later to become the 43rd Gurkha Rifles.
