Chronology

  • 1804 raised as 1st Btn 26th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry following 1796 reorganisation when previous 26th was absorbed by 11th Regiment
  • 1824 1st Battalion became 51st Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry under Major E Day
  • 1857 mutinied at Peshawar 28 August
