Chronology

  • 1804 raised as 2nd Btn 28th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry following 1796 reorganisation when previous 28th was absorbed by 2nd Regiment
  • 1824 2nd Battalion became 56th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry under Major H Wrottesley
  • 1857 mutinied at Cawnpore 5 June
