• 1777 raised as 21st Carnatic Battalion from 2nd, 6th, 12th and 15th Carnatic Battalions
• 1784 became 21st Madras Battalion
• 1796 became 2nd Battalion, 2nd Regiment of Madras Native Infantry
• 1824 became 20th Regiment of Madras Native Infantry
• 1885 became 20th Madras Infantry
• 1903 became 80th Carnatic Infantry
• 1922 disbanded
