Known as 22nd Punjabis

Chronology

  • 1857 raised as 11th Regiment of Punjab Infantry from loyal elements of the 1st Sikh Infantry and 3rd Punjab Police Battalions
  • 1861 became 22nd Bengal Native Infantry
  • 1864 became 22nd (Punjab) Bengal Native Infantry
  • 1885 became 22nd (Punjab) Bengal Infantry
  • 1901 became 22nd Punjab Infantry
  • 1903 became 22nd Punjabis
  • 1922 became 3rd/14th Punjab Regiment
  • 1947 allocated to Pakistan on Partition

Second World War

The regiment was in India until September 25th 1940, then Egypt, the Sudan from January 1941, Abyssinia from May 1941, Egypt from April 1942 to October 1942, then Iraq to April 1943. After returning to India, it embarked for Burma December 1943 and remained in this theatre of war, including Imphal , until October 1944 when it returned to India , where it was stationed at Bannu.
