- 1861 became 31st Bengal Native Infantry
- 1864 became 31st (Punjab) Bengal Native Infantry
- 1885 became 31st (Punjab) Bengal Infantry
- 1901 became 31st Punjab Infantry
- 1903 became 31st Punjabis
- 1922 became 2nd Battalion 16th Punjab Regiment
- 1947 allocated to Pakistan on Partition
Regimental history
- Solah Punjab: The History of the 16th Punjab Regiment. Edited by J. P. Lawford and W. E. Catto 1967. Available at the British Library
- History of Dosolah 14th Battalion the Punjab Regiment 1857-1985 compiled by Colonel H U Qureishi. Published in Pakistan, circa 1985 but no publisher name or date. 275 pages containing black and white illustrations, photographs and colour maps. (More details.[1]) It appears that 14th Battalion the Punjab Regiment in the Pakistan Army was previously the 2nd Battalion 16th Punjab Regiment, and the prior 31st Punjabis.
