Birlapur Jute Mill Railway
The 'Birla Jute & Industries Ltd' was established in 1919 at Birlapur, South Paraganas District as a Jute Mill. It was one of the first Birla family ventures, led by G D Birla, one of four brothers and first named the 'Birla Jute Manufacturing Co', set up to challenge the British (or more accurately Scottish ) monopoly of the Jute production in India [1].
The records indicate that a 2ft 6in/762mm (NG) system was operational at the mill [1].
