Membership of the board was an aspiration of all new Assistants.
Before the 1858 civil service reforms, the Board of Revenue comprised of two Boards:
- Board of Land Revenue,
- Board of Customs, Salt and Opium
(6 members and 4 secretaries)
Following the reforms the Board of Revenue comprises of 2 officers, one responsible for Land Revenue, the other Customs, Salt and Opium.
They:
- collated District returns
- arbitrated any issues with Districts
- prepared annual reports for the Government
