Faridpur was the headquarters of Faridpur District in the Dacca Division of Bengal during the British period. See Bengal Districts.

There was a Baptist mission located here, which seems to have been established c 1882 by the South Australian Baptist Foreign Missionary Society, which became the Australian Baptist Foreign Mission Society. There were related missions at Comilla and Pubna
