The Nagore Branch Line, 53 miles(84km), was a branch from the South Indian Railway metre gauge (MG) 'Madras-Tuticorin Mainline' from Tanjore to Nagore
The section from Tanjore via Tiruvallur to Negapatam was first constructed by the Great Southern of India Railway in 1861 as broad gauge (BG), which was taken over by the South Indian Railway in 1874. The line was converted in 1878 to metre gauge(MG) [1].
The section from Negapatam to Nagore was constructed as MG and opened in 1899 [1]. The two sections together becoming the 'Nagore Branch Line'
