Kurnool is about 125 miles south-south-west of Hyderabad in the Deccan. It was the headquarters of the Kurnool District during the British period. Kurnool District was the location of a campaign in 1839 to suppress a revolt. There was a confrontation at the town of Kurnool and nearby Zorapore involving HM 13th Light Dragoons.
