Tipu invaded [[Travancore]] on 29 December 1789 and [[Charles Cornwallis|Lord Cornwallis]] declared the opening of hostilities on 27 January 1790.

Cornwallis took control of the Company forces in January 1791 fighting a series of actions culminating in the [[Siege of Seringapatam 1792|Siege of Seringapatam]].
