Chronology
- 1803 raised as 1st Btn 23rd Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry following 1796 reorganisation when previous 23rd became the 2nd Btn 5th Regiment
- 1824 1st Battalion became 45th Regiment of Bengal Native Infantry under Major J Fergusson
- 1857 mutinied at Ferozepore 13 & 14 May
