This ferry formed part of EBR’s [[Gauhati Branch Railway]] a metre gauge([[Rail_gauge_#Metre_Gauge|MG]]) line of 147 miles (235km) and connected the EBR main line at Golakganj to the ferry terminus at Amingaoan. From Pandu Ghat terminus the short [[Pandu Ghat-Gauhati Railway]] connected to the [[Assam-Bengal Railway]](ABR) at Gauhati
It was only in 1962 that the Saraighat Bridge replaced the ferry service, this is post independence and beyond the scope of this page.
