After a year the Assistant would go to a Sub-Division of the District. Usually it was a remote station where he is the only white occupant other than the odd [[planter]]. His role was magistrate with accounting and treasury tasks along with being postmaster.

An Assistant will take 10 years to rise through the ranks to become a Collector-Magistrate.
