== Summary ==
After the victory at the [[Battle of Koonch]], [[Hugh Rose|Sir Hugh Rose]] advanced towards Kalpi. The rebels under [[Rani Lakshmibai]], reinforced by Rao Sahib (nephew of Nana Sahib) and the Rajah of Banda, attacked the British in 40° heat south east of the town. They were forced to retreat however and the town and fort which were found deserted, were overrun.
