== Summary ==
On 11 April 1858 General Sir Edward Lugard advancing from Lucknow encountered a rebel force at the village of Tigra - northwest 17 miles NNW of [[Jaunpur]]. The rebels were defeated and Lugard then continued on to relieve [[Azamgarh]]<ref>

This young man, nephew of Sir Henry Havelock, "was killed in action at Tighra with Sir E Lugard’s force, whilst gallantly leading his men of the [[12th Irregular Cavalry]] in a charge against the rebels" A note explains that he "perished in a small affair against Ghulam Husain and Mehdi Hasan in Jaunpur"
