: The author is stated to be Katharine Blanche Guthrie.If so, she may have been Katherine Blanche, daughter of Thomas Starkie, Esq., Queen's Counsel. who married the Rev. Lowry Guthrie 23 February 1846. She travelled from England, with a female companion M, possibly /probably her daughter and was met by M's husband, G and proceeded to Belgaum. G appears to have been was in government employmentProvost-Marshal (page 81, MYiaIF, possibly the CollectorVolume I). It is stated his garden was the "finest in Belgaum".
