Opened The line was constructed in 1862-63to handle traffic from the opening of Port Canning as an auxiliary harbour to Calcutta, but the failure of Port Canning involved the railway in its ruin. The railway was absorbed into East Bengal Railway(EBR) becoming the Canning Branch Railway.  ==External Link==*[https://books.google.fr/books?isbn=8172681933 Bengal District Gazetteers: 24-Parganas.
