Britain responded by declaring war on 1 November. The British under Commodore Young occupied Kharg Island and an advance division under Maj-Gen Stalker took Bushire in December. Reinforcements under Sir James Outram arrived from Bombay in January 1857. After a series of British victories the Treaty of Paris was signed on 4 March 1857 and the Persians withdrew from Herat.== Expeditionary Force =='''First Division'''
''Maj-Gen Stalker CB''
Artillery under Brig H W Trevelyan*3rd Troop Horse Artillery*1st Company 1st Battalion European Foot Artillery*4th Company 1st Battalion European Foot Artillery*Reserve European Foot Artillery
Cavalry Brigade under Brig T Tapp
*Two squadrons 3rd Regiment Light Cavalry (243 troopers) under Capt Forbes*Two troops of Poona Irregular Horse (176 troopers)
1st Infantry Brigade under Brig J Stopford CB
*HM 64th Regiment of Foot under Maj Sterling *20th Native Infantry under Capt Macleod
2nd Infantry Brigade under Brig R W Honner
*2nd Bombay European Light Infantry under Lt-Col Ramsay*4th Bombay Native Infantry (Rifle Corps) under Maj Manson*2nd Belooch Battalion under Capt Hough
Engineer Department under Brevet Maj J Hill
*Two Companies of Sappers & Miners under Capt Dickinson
Total 4234 '''Second Division'''
''Brig-Gen Havelock CB''
''First Brigade under Brig Hamilton''
*78th HighLanders*26th Native Infantry''Second Brigade under Brig Hale''*23rd Native Light Infantry*14th Light Dragoons*No 3 Light Field Battery (6 guns) under Capt Hatch*No 5 Light Field Battery (6 guns) under Capt Gibbard*4th troop of Horse Artillery (6 guns) under Maj Blake == External Links ==For details see main article [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anglo-Persian_War Persian War 1856-57] Wikipedia
[http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=BnwcAAAAMAAJ&printsec=titlepage&source=gbs_v2_summary_r&cad=0 Outram & Havelock]''s Persian Campaign] Google Books
[http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=_gkHAQAAIAAJ&pg=PA343&dq=Persian+War+1856&as_brr=3&ei=todlSr_gEozcygTZuazVAw Persian War- Blackwoods Magazine] Google Books
[http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=DopJAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA1&dq=Lieut.-General+Sir+James+Outram%27s+Persian+campaign+in+1857&ei=CIllSsP6JJa4yQTv8KnPAw Outram's Despatches] Google Books [[Category:Wars and Campaigns|Persian War 1856-57]][[Category:Campaigns with FIBIS Battle Maps|Persian War]]
