'''General Sir Charles John Stanley Gough VC, GCB (1832–1912)''' was the grandson of [[Hugh Gough|Viscount Gough]] and brother of [[Hugh Gough]]. He was born in Chittagong and entered the army in 1848. He served as a cornet in the [[8th Bengal Light Cavalry]] during . He served in the [[2nd Sikh WarCorps of Guides, Punjab Frontier Force|Corps of Guides]] and became a major in then [[Hodson's Horse]] during the [[5th Bengal European Light CavalryIndian Mutiny]]. He and won a VC for gallantry on four separate occasion during occasions. After brief service in the [[19th Hussars]] he was given command of the [[Indian Mutiny5th Bengal European Light Cavalry]]. He also took part in the [[Duar War]] and the [[2nd Afghan War]]where he commanded a brigade. He then commanded the [[Hyderabad Contingent]]and was promoted to general in 1894. He retired to Ireland.
