By the treaty of 1801 the Nizam of Hyderabad was obliged to maintain a military force called the '''Nizam's Contingent'''. The subsequent treaty of 1853 renamed the force the '''Hyderabad ContingentDeccan Horse'''. During the 19th century was the names successor of the units changed from '''1st and 2nd Regiment Nizam’s CavalryRegiments of the [[Hyderabad Contingent]]. In 1903 they became the ''' to [[20th Deccan Horse]]'''1st and 2nd Cavalry Hyderabad Contingentthe ''' and '''1st and 2nd [[29th Lancers Hyderabad Contingent(Deccan Horse)]]'''respectively. The regiments were amalgamated in 1922 to form the Royal Deccan Horse (9th Horse) which changed to The Deccan Horse (9 Horse) on Indian independence.
