By the treaty of 1801 the Nizam of Hyderabad was obliged to maintain a military force called the The '''NizamDeccan Horse's Contingent'''. The subsequent treaty was the successor of 1853 renamed the force 1st and 2nd Cavalry Regiments of the '''[[Hyderabad Contingent''']]. During In 1903 they became the 19th century the names of the units changed from '''1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th Regiments Nizam’s Cavalry''' to '''1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th Cavalry Hyderabad Contingent[[20th Deccan Horse]]''' and the '''1st, 2nd, 3rd & 4th [[29th Lancers Hyderabad Contingent(Deccan Horse)]]'''respectively. The regiments were amalgamated in 1922 to form the Royal Deccan Horse (9th Horse) which changed to The Deccan Horse (9 Horse) on Indian independence.
