Also known as the Deoghar Railway, the DR was a very short (only 5 miles long) metre gauge line which branched off the East Indian Railway's main line between Madhupur and Luckeeserai at Jasidih.
The railway served one of the most important Hindu pilgrimage centres in India, located in the town of Deoghar, also known as Baidyanathdham which is now the name of the terminus. Under Indian Railways, the DR has been converted to broad gauge as part of Project Unigauge.
