*Lists of surgeons, and prior to 1894, Assistant Surgeons may be found in the ''East-India Register and Directory'', published 1803-1860. The ''East-India Register'' was superseded by what was initially called ''The Indian Army and Civil Service List''. Later these were separated, and the ''India Army List'' is the volume which contains the surgeons. Many of the ''East India Register and Directory'' are available online, together with some editions of '' The Indian Army and Civil Service List'' and other directories such as the ''Bengal Directory'', and may be found on '''[[Directories online]]''', which also mentions some earlier publications available on subscription websites.
